As the world wraps itself in the throes of winter, we’re dreaming of nature’s
unveiling in spring. In the YWCA’s Women’s Art Gallery current exhibit, the
natural world is exuberant, revealing a riot of color, pattern and life.
On a mission to provide a space for art exhibitions by and about women and
provide educational programs for diverse audiences, the YWCA Women’s Art
Gallery presents This Iridescent Earth featuring the artwork of:
- Sheila Heinen an award-winning artist whose paintings are inspired by
nature—a glorious sunrise, a mysterious landscape or the delicate
beauty of a flower. She uses transparent color over metallic leaf,
creating multiple perspectives as light reflects through the painted
surface.
- Marty Husted has been nationally recognized for her dynamic fine art
paintings. She reaches beyond realism to redefine natural
relationships. By becoming immersed in nature and its lyricism, she
creates imaginative landscapes rich in vibrant color, pattern and
texture.
- Jan Nickum’s work is based on animal life — mainly birds. She is
intrigued by the immense range of their patterns, textures, colors and
shapes. Spending nearly their entire lives in the air, birds are
messengers between the physical and the ethereal — liaisons between
earth and sky.
- Kay Worz is a nationally recognized artist whose watercolors are
inspired by Art Deco and French glass. Whether the gracefulness of a
bird in flight or the symmetrical unfolding of a palm frond, her
colorful linear compositions present the rhythm and design she finds
in nature.
Now open, This Iridescent Earth runs through April 9, 2015 at the YWCA
Women’s Art Gallery which is located on the second floor of the YWCA, 898
Walnut Street (on the corner of 9th and Walnut), downtown. Gallery hours
are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., or by special
arrangement – please call 241-7090 for more information.
