The “100+ African American Men’s Chorus” concert is coming Dec. 14, at 5 p.m.,
to Allen Temple A.M.E. Church, 7030 Reading Rd., 45237. The proceeds from
the Gospel music concert will benefit several Black College Bus Tours in 2015.
The concert is free and open to the public, but a free will offering will be taken.
The Black College tours slated to benefit include those established by Step
Higher, led by Janelle Hocker, and a tour led each year by Mrs. Madison and Mrs.
Tuggle. Black College Tours have been proven successful in helping to foster
and encourage our youth to have a greater interest in pursuing higher learning.
A huge mass choir comprised solely of African American men is not something
you see every day, said Vickie Williams, one of the organizers. This is the third
time for the event. Rehearsals have been going on for the event since spring.
“Last time it was so inspiring to see so many Black men, 100 strong, together
praising God in song. It’s even more moving and powerful when you consider the
purpose of the concert – to raise money to help young people go on a Black
College tour, one that will help inspire them to go on to higher education and
fulfill their potential,” Ms. Williams said.
The proceeds from last two years’ 100+ African American Men’s Chorus helped
to provide partial scholarships for 230 students to go on the Spring and Summer
Black College Bus tours. Event organizers hope to raise enough money this year,
so they can add another Black College Tour program, so that even more students
can visit the colleges and be inspired to pursue higher education.
The event is sponsored by “Let Every Vessel Enjoy Life” or LEVEL. LEVEL
leadership includes: Henry Benefield, M. Vickie Williams, Min. Leslie M.
Calhoun, and Min. Cerano Blasingame. Promotional co-sponsor this year is
Wright Communications (wrightcommunicationspr.com).
