The 2014 Women of Excellence
BDPA Cincinnati Students Win $15,625 in STEM Scholarships
BDPA Cincinnati Chapter (BDPA) led by chapter president Dalric Webb (GE), sent a contingent of
seven high school and college students to the 36th annual BDPA Technology Conference in
Indianapolis.  The team of young people came home from the conference with $15,625 in college
scholarships!  BDPA honored the winners at its 18th annual BDPA Education Banquet on Sunday,
October 4, 2014.

The students, who trained at a volunteer led computer camp at Cincinnati State Technical each
Saturday for the first six months of the year, participated in a variety of STEM-based competitions  
including a high school computer competition (HSCC), IT showcase, and mobile application
showcase
.

Earning a 5th place finish (out of 46 eligible teams) during two days of the competition and each a
$500 Jesse Bemley Scholarship as a result of their high performance: Yaw Asante (Walnut Hills High
School), Jon Carr (St. Xavier High School), Hasani Harrigan (Seven Hills High School) and Austin
Murph (Seven Hills High School).

Hasani Harrigan added to his college scholarship winnings by earning a $3,125 college scholarship
from Oracle, which goes to student members pursuing careers in engineering, computer and
information science, computer engineering or mathematics.

Dylan Gunn, a college student BDPA Cincinnati Chapter member who now attends North Carolina
A&T University, won a $5,000 Eli Lilly Scholarship for BDPA Students. The scholarship recognizes
outstanding minority students, with an interest in information technology, who make significant
contributions to society.

BDPA Cincinnati Chapter college student Itobore Odje (University of Cincinnati) participated in the
1st annual BDPA Mobile Application Showcase and came away with the silver medal as well as a
$5,500 college scholarship funded by State Farm.

The West Chester ▪ Liberty Chamber Alliance, the region’s fourth
largest Chamber, is honoring ten outstanding women at The 13th
Annual Women of Excellence Awards.  The 2014 Women of
Excellence will be presented on Friday, November 21st at the
Cincinnati Marriott North in West Chester.  Another highlight of
the event is the presentation of The Ethel Moritz Scholarship
which will be awarded to one woman for post-secondary
education.

Through their careers or volunteerism, the Women of Excellence
honorees have enhanced business, education, culture and
philanthropy along the I-75 Growth Corridor.  Two of these ten
women are young women between the ages of 16-24.    The 2014
honorees are Carol Buckner, Diane Grimes, Sue Guttag, Amanda
Horne, Sarah King, Dr. Lisa Larkin, Donna Leslie, Sue Mahlock,
Christine Matacic, and Karen Mueller.

“The I-75 Growth Corridor covers I-275 to I-675 and is the growth
engine between Dayton and Cincinnati. We recognize that these
ten women have made incredible contributions to the quality of
life and the economy along the corridor.” said Joe Hinson,
President & CEO, of The West Chester ▪ Liberty Chamber
Alliance.  “Without their diverse influence, the region would not
be flourishing in the way it is today.”

The event keynote speaker will be, Jo Ann Davidson, the first
and only Female Speaker of the Ohio House and the emcee will be
Debbie Brenneman, Partner, Thompson Hine LLP (2009 Woman of
Excellence).

Tickets to attend the awards are $65 per person, $125 per couple
and $30 per student. The cocktail reception begins at 6:00pm
