In its 23rd year of presenting the Beautillion Militaire, the Cincinnati Queen City Alumnae Chapter
(CQCA) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, partnered with the 100 Black Men of Greater
Cincinnati to present the six-month educational and personal development program focused on aiding
the high school junior and senior males to realize their potential as they embark on their next step into
manhood – graduation from high school and preparing for life. Throughout the educational and
personal development program, the young men interact with adult mentors and are exposed to monthly
workshops/activities including career choices/life choices, interviewing skills/resume writing,
community service, bonding activities, male health and wellness, college life, relationships, spirituality,
and financial matters. The six month program culminated in 2013 with the Beautillion Militaire Gala, a
black-tie affair where the young men were presented $17,000 in scholarships and awards.

Duke Energy Children's Museum ECSITE Program Wins National Award
|
Cincinnati Museum Center's Duke Energy Children's Museum is
one of four Association of Children's Museums (ACM) members to
receive a 2013 Promising Practice Award which includes a $10,000
grant for each award recipient.
Cincinnati's Duke Energy Children's Museum was selected as a
2013 Promising Practice Award winner because of its Early
Childhood Science Inquiry Teacher Education (ECSITE) program.
ECSITE is a teacher professional development program designed to
sustainably increase the competency and confidence of early
childhood teachers in creating science inquiry classroom
experiences for their students, thereby maximizing science
thinking and key multi-disciplinary developmental skills.
Supported by MetLife Foundation and administered by ACM, the
Promising Practice Award recognizes U.S. and international
children's museums as essential places for nurturing children to
become global citizens. The Children's Museum of Tacoma (WA),
Chicago Children's Museum (IL) and The Children's Museum Jordan
(Amman) are the other three award recipients for 2013.

PNC, The Cincinnati Reds and Players For The Planet
joined forces with Cohen Recycling and many of
Cincinnati’s leading corporations for the 4th annual
PNC/Players For The Planet E-Waste Recycling drives
held in April. The PNC/Players For The Planet E-Waste
Recycling drives provided an easy way for Reds fans and
residents of Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky
to recycle old electronics.
This event, thanks in large part to the energetic
support of the Reds, has become one of the largest e-
waste recycling drives in the entire country! There
were 4 recycling locations and the first 200 cars at each
location that dropped off electronic waste items for
recycling received 2 tickets to a Cincinnati Reds game.
Current (Jay Bruce, Ryan Hanigan) and former (George
Foster) Reds players along with broadcaster Marty
Brennaman were on-hand to greet recyclers and help
with the collection.
Despite the rainy weather, the 2013 event was on track
to break last year’s record of 199,000 pounds - nearly
100 tons of e-waste kept out of our landfills and
responsibly recycled!
High-fives to ALL involved in saving the environment
and protecting the planet!

ECSITE is producing a positive impact within our community, resulting in a fourth year of funding by
PNC's Grow Up Great with Science program. PNC's contribution inaugurated the ECSITE program and has
provided $570,000 over the four years of the program, including the most recent grant of $100,000 for
Year 4. ECSITE is also supported through a grant from the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Social
Innovation Fund and was awarded the 2012 Community Builder Award from the Hamilton County
Community Action Agency.
