Beautillion Militaire Turns 21
|
This year marked the 21st year of Cincinnati Queen City Alumnae’s journey to inspire and
positively impact the lives of Greater Cincinnati African American high school males - the
Beautillion Militaire. “Empowering Males to Build Opportunities for Developing
Independence (EMBODI)”, the heartbeat of the endeavor, is the mainstay of its success. The
Beautillion Militaire, presented by the Cincinnati Queen City Alumnae (CQCA) Chapter of
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., turned 21 and continued its tradition of outreach to
young African American males.
The 2011 Beautillion Militare gala, the program’s culminating event, was a stellar evening
of the presentation of the 2011 Beaux, dinner, awarding of scholarships/awards, step
presentation with the young men dressed in top hats, tuxedos, and canes, and celebration.
Set to a backdrop of after five attire and exuberant anticipation of beaux potential and
highlighting the achievements of twelve young men, the 2011 formal culminating event of
the Beautillion Militaire was held April 9, 2011 at the Crowne Plaza Cincinnati North. This
year, $13,500 was awarded in scholarships and awards.
The Beautillion Class of 2011: Devonte Bane, Justin Benton, Christian Clark, Joshua
Coates, Marcus Donaldson, Alex McGlothin, Miles Morton-Green, Jeremy Prater, Ronald
Robinson Jr., Shakim Sandidge, Gabriel Ware, and Garrett White.
Over the past twenty one years, 266 young men have participated in the program which is
focused on aiding young men to realize their potential as they embark on their next step
into manhood – graduation from high school and preparing for life.

May is National Foster Care Month. Beech Acres Parenting Center has provided children in
our community with safe, loving foster homes for over 35 years. Each May, Beech Acres
hosts a Foster Parent Appreciation Night to honor their foster parents. These dedicated
parents nurture our community’s neediest children every day with little appreciation.
Their reward is the success of the children in their care. For one evening, the parenting
center offers dinner, an awards ceremony, music and dancing. It’s a simple way of saying
thanks and showing deep appreciation for the daily commitment to children.
During May, Beech Acres will also share information with the community on other ways they
can foster change for these children. The parenting center’s ‘Foster Change’ campaign will
try to increase awareness of the multiple ways that anyone can get involved. While
becoming a foster parent is the ultimate gift, there are many other ways to change the life of
a child. Tutors and mentors are always needed. Gift certificates for supplies such as
formula, cribs, clothes, and school supplies are always in demand. Scholarships are needed
to provide a chance that they can achieve the higher education they deserve.
If you are interested in sponsoring Beech Acres’ Foster Parent Appreciation Night, or
providing gift cards for the families, please contact Patrick Nugent at 513.231.6630.
