The Society of  St. Vincent de Paul (SVDP) thanks Reds fans for helping to Strike Out
Hunger. Fans who attended the June 3 Reds game at Great American Ballpark donated more
than 6,000 pounds of canned goods – enough to help SVDP's network of food pantries feed
2,100 people. For contributing to the food drive, fans received tickets to the September 19
game between the Reds and the Houston Astros. The Cincinnati Reds and NEWS 5 partnered
with St. Vincent de Paul to sponsor the drive.

“We are grateful to partner once again with NEWS 5 and The Reds and we applaud their
commitment to feeding the hungry in our community,” said Liz Carter, executive director of
St. Vincent de Paul. “We are especially grateful to the fans who graciously donated food
items,” she continued. “Their generosity will positively impact families in need, many in
their own neighborhoods.”

                             Cincinnati State's Jake Jones Wins
                       NJCAA Academic Student-Athelete Award

Jake Jones, a member of the nationally-ranked Cincinnati State men's soccer team the past
two years, was named a winner of a 2011 Academic Student-Athlete Award by the National
Junior College Athletic Association.  Jones, who graduated Magna Cum Laude in June from
Cincinnati State, helped lead the Surge to the NJCAA Finals this past season. The team
finished second in the national tournament.

Jones, a graduate of Glen Este High School, played on the varsity soccer team as a freshman
and for most of his career was a team leader in goals and assists. On his club team, the CSA
Magic, he was a starting outside midfielder.  In his two years at Cincinnati State, Jones was
named to the First Team of the Ohio Community College Athletic Association in 2009 and
again in 2010.  He was also a member of the Honors Experience at Cincinnati State, and was
recently awarded the Academic Achievement Award for Men’s Soccer at the college’s 2011
Athletic Awards Banquet.  He graduated with an Associate's Degree in Science, and plans to
continue his studies at a four-year institution with aspirations of becoming a physical
therapist.
