Ohio Senator Eric Kearney of Cincinnati’s 9th District was unanimously elected by
the Senate Democratic Caucus to lead the group as Senate minority leader. He
succeeds Ohio Senator Capri S. Cafaro, of Hubbard, who has served as Senate
Democratic leader since 2009.

Ohio Senator Kearney has represented the 9th Senate District since December of
2005, making him the senior member of the 10-member caucus. During his time in
the General Assembly, he has championed the issues of small business
development, child safety, healthy choices and crime prevention. He has served as
the ranking minority member of the Senate Judiciary Committee and the Financial
Institutions Committee.

As Senate minority leader, Kearney said his work in the Senate has been expanded
to helping caucus members achieve success and to managing the caucus.

As part of the Cincinnati Youth Collaborative (CYC) mentor recognition during January 2012 - National
Mentoring Month, CYC honored 15 Outstanding Volunteers and Mentors at the annual Thank Your
Mentor Dinner held at the Fifth Third Convening Center at the United Way on January 19th.  Richard
Dyer, President and General Manager of WLWT TV 5 was the keynote speaker.  Mr. Dyer emphasized and
thanked mentors for exemplifying the theme of National Mentoring Month 2012 - Invest in the Future:
Mentor a Child.

The 2012 CYC Outstanding Volunteers and Mentors represent a diverse and accomplished group of
individuals who positively impact the lives of young people. These people have invested time, energy and
passion into helping young people succeed. The dividends are paying off.

This year's CYC Outstanding Volunteers are Harry Blanton, Bishop Victor S.Couzens, Matt Curran, Mike
Fredrick, Scott Grothaus, Andy Hofmann, Michael Liu, Brenda McCaskill, Sgt. Tia Pearson Miller, Tina
Marie Mitchell, Darlene & Richard Ramon, Ellie Reiser, Keith Sams, Judy Schmitt and Brittany Tucker.

The Invested in Youth Award was given to Sgt. Tia Miller for her dedication to bettering the lives of young
women both on and off duty. Sgt. Miller has officially mentored Dubrina for four years but has informally
mentored more than five young women that she has met while on the job as a Cincinnati Police Officer.

Harry Blanton and Andy Hofmann received the Return on Investment award for their longevity in the
mentoring program and having mentored at least one student through high school graduation.

Bishop Victor Couzens received the United for Youth award for his personal commitment to recruiting
volunteers for the program. His passion and dedication has allowed an entire congregation to impact the
lives of several hundred school students.

Congrats and Thank You to all for Investing in the Future by Mentoring!  High-fives!
