Village Life Outreach Project Night on the Serengeti 2011
|
The Village Life Outreach Project, a Cincinnati based non-
profit organization whose mission is to unite communities
to promote Life, Health and Education, recently held a sold-
out fundraiser -"Night on the Serengeti 2011". Proceeds from
the event continue Village Life's efforts to fight poverty in
Tanzania and enhance learning in Cincinnati. Dr. Gregory H.
Williams, President of the University of Cincinnati, provided
the keynote address. The Master of Ceremonies for the
evening was Courtis Fuller, WLWT-TV News 5 anchor/reporter.
"Night on the Serengeti 2011" transported guests to the
beautiful country of Tanzania, where they experienced the
sights, sounds and tastes of African culture including "a
meet and greet" with Cincinnati Zoo animals from the region.
Attendees enjoyed a plated dinner and a special "Rafiki"
ceremony with awards presented to Maren Carpenter-Fearing
and Kelsey Cramer.
During the evening, Village Life highlighted the progress the
organization made in 2010, provided updates on the new
Roche Health Center being built in the region, and honored
esteemed guests, gracious sponsors and dedicated partners.
There was also a silent auction showcasing authentic African
artifacts and local business products and services and the
opportunity to purchase Village Life Bow Ties and Village Life
Tanzanian Peaberry coffee to support Village Life fundraising.
Founded in 2004, most of Village Life’s work focuses on three
remote and impoverished villages in the Rorya district of
Tanzania, East Africa. Village Life’s designated teams for
Life, Health and Education have created exciting projects
such as water purification systems for access to clean water,
distribution of mosquito nets to prevent malaria, and a
school lunch program to combat severe malnutrition in
school-age children.
Village Life Outreach Project abides by several guiding
principles in their efforts to relieve suffering and spread
love: Service to the Poor, Partnerships, Sustainability,
Community, and Collaboration.
High-fives and Congrats to Village Life Outreach Project and
supporters!

The Kappa Delta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity (Miami University (OH)) held their 2nd annual Kappa
Alpha Psi Freedom Walk on October 8, 2011. The walk started in New Richmond, Ohio and wrapped up at the
Freedom Center in downtown Cincinnati. "We were excited to get back out there to raise funds and
awareness for such a worthy cause and a true pillar of the community." said Andre Rudolph, Polemarch
[President] of the Kappa Delta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi. "After enduring the 40-mile trek last fall, there
was never any question about continuing the walk again this year."
This year’s 23 mile Freedom Walk, which included Kappa Alpha Psi chapters from Northern Kentucky
University, Wilberforce University, and the University of Cincinnati, raised thousands of dollars and
awareness. While raising awareness and funds for the Freedom Center, participants brought attention to
the brave acts of 19th century freedom seekers and abolitionists. The walk began in New Richmond, Ohio at
the historic Cranston Memorial Presbyterian Church and travelled west (on foot) taking in various
Underground Railroad and abolitionist sites along the way and hearing from several speakers and
historians who were a part of the quest for freedom - then and now.
"We learned so much about each other as leaders and men that a value could not be placed on the
experience." said Andre Rudolph. "This will continue to be an annual event sponsored by the men of the
Kappa Delta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi."
High-fives to the Kappas!
