Journey Steel will, for the second year, underwrite Envision Children’s annual
“Lighting the Way” Scholarship Gala on Sunday, April 9, 2-5 p.m. at Prime
Cincinnati, 580 Walnut St., 45202. Proceeds from the benefit will help fund the
nonprofit’s innovative, interactive educational programs, such as Extended-Day
school-based tutoring, ACT boot camps, Power Saturdays and Summer Academic
Enrichment. Other sponsors include: Prime Cincinnati, SESH Communications
(publisher of The Cincinnati Herald), Cooper Creek Homes and Premier Mail &
Fulfillment.
Envision Children is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit, founded in 1999 by Sheryl McClung
McConney. She is an education innovator who trained under Marva Collins at the
Westside Preparatory School in Chicago and has been a teacher for nearly 30 years in
Cincinnati. Envision Children provides educational enrichment programs in Greater
Cincinnati for all children, providing scholarships to disadvantaged students.
“We’re so excited about the wonderful food our guests will enjoy at this year’s
beautiful venue, Prime Cincinnati, and the wonderful gift Journey Steel has given to
Envision,” McConney explains. “Now the entire proceeds from Lighting the Way will
be able to go to providing scholarships to 300 economically disadvantaged students,
to attend our expanded Academic Summer Enrichment Program.”
Envision Children’s Academic Summer Enrichment Program is an eight-week
interactive, educational camp designed to improve academic performance. The
expansion doubles the number of students that will be served and adds another
location – providing the community with programs in Bond Hill, Forest Park and
Silverton.
The summer program recently received certification from the American Camp
Association, a sought after designation few summer camps hold. This certification
allows the program to now accept State Daycare Vouchers for those children whose
families are income eligible.
Everyone in the Greater Cincinnati community is invited to attend the night of fun,
food and fellowship for a good cause. Lighting the Way will feature great food by
Prime Cincinnati, an eclectic blend of jazz, R&B and pop music by the local band Like
Minds, a silent auction and a live auction. Auction items include: a “Chicago
Weekend for Two,Prime Experience,” an “Ultimate Bengals Weekend,” “Wine-a-
Palooza,” a “Catered Affair,” “Spoil Me Rotten” and “Diamonds Are a Girl's Best
Friend.”
Tickets are $65, including dinner, one complimentary drink and a cash bar. For
